At Momentum, we want to reduce global CO2 emissions by producing green energy in the most sustainable way to create value for people, society and nature. This means, among other things, that we work purposefully to minimize the negative impacts that our activities – both within our own operations and our value chain – have on people and the environment.
To support this work and contribute to a more just and inclusive green transition in the energy sector, we have chosen to join the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest voluntary sustainability initiative.
The initiative supports companies in achieving more responsible and sustainable business practices and is based on ten principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, which all members commit to following and integrating into their corporate strategy, processes and organizational culture.
“We are excited to join the UN Global Compact and the huge community of companies both in Denmark and globally working towards a more socially just and sustainable world,” says CEO Kim Madsen. “We are still at the beginning of our sustainability journey and will actively use the membership to strengthen our ESG work. At the same time, we hope to inspire others” , he concludes.
An important next step in Momentum’s sustainability journey
In 2023, Momentum took significant steps on our sustainability journey. We welcomed several new employees to strengthen our sustainability and ESG efforts, and we started working more systematically with the area. By joining the UN Global Compact, we are stepping up our efforts and taking another important step towards a more targeted approach to sustainability and ESG.
Louise Klintholm, Sustainability & ESG Manager at Momentum says: “In 2024 we focus on laying the foundation for a strong ESG strategy, strengthening our governance setup, streamlining our ESG reporting and engaging all employees in Momentum’s sustainability work. The Global Compact membership gives us access to a lot of valuable knowledge, best practice and exchange of experiences that can support us in our work.”
As a member, Momentum is now part of the local Global Compact network in Denmark, which includes more than 650 companies and organizations. Globally, the initiative has more than 25,000 members. Through Global Compact membership, members have the opportunity to participate in networking groups, webinars and make use of the UN Global Compact’s e-learning platform Academy, which contains a lot of learning material and courses within E, S and G.
“Joining the Global Compact underlines our commitment to working to ensure that the green transition is also a responsible and just transition that does not come at the expense of people or the environment,” says Louise Klintholm and continues; “Specifically, we will use the membership to enhance our internal knowledge and competencies within sustainability and ESG so that employees across the organization gain a deeper understanding of the area and how they can contribute to Momentum’s sustainability journey.”
As a member of the UN Global Compact, Momentum must annually communicate our continued commitment to the ten principles and report on ESG performance and progress through an online questionnaire on the Global Compact website.
