Press release:
New solar PV plant in Nyborg Municipality promotes biodiversity and produces enough renewable energy to cover half of the municipality’s residents’ annual electricity consumption
04.09.2026
Following testing and commissioning over the summer, Momentum Energy Group A/S has commissioned a new solar PV plant near Aunslev in Nyborg Municipality. The plant has been established on former conventionally farmed agricultural land owned by farmer Thomas Beck, and after a 10-month construction and testing phase, the solar PV plant is now fully operational.
The solar PV plant was constructed by Momentum Energy Group A/S’ construction team, with Danish Sun Energy acting as advisor on engineering and procurement. The plant covers approximately 28 hectares and is expected to produce around 36,000 MWh of renewable electricity annually. This corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of just over 8,000 households.
Mayor of Nyborg Municipality, Kenneth Muhs (V), says:
“We are not done with solar energy in Nyborg Municipality, and this project is a good example of how the transition to renewable energy can go hand in hand with local support and a strong focus on biodiversity. I look forward to the inauguration and to continuing the discussion in the municipality about how we can meet the growing demand for renewable energy from both solar and wind in the years ahead.”
Renewable energy production is the primary purpose of the solar PV plant, but for Momentum, the ambition extends beyond energy generation. We also want our projects to contribute positively to nature and biodiversity and to support the development of new knowledge.
As part of Momentum’s project model, we work actively to enhance nature and biodiversity on the land used for our renewable energy projects. Already during construction in early spring, herbs and grasses were sown both beneath and around the solar panels. The seed mix was developed by Momentum and consists of native flowering species typically found in open Danish woodland and meadows.
In April 2026, pupils from grades 0–5 at the local school, Vibeskolen Aunslev department, visited the plant, where they helped sow wildflower seeds and install bird nesting boxes. In this way, Momentum is helping to enhance local biodiversity while also giving children an opportunity to learn about renewable energy first-hand.
CEO of Momentum Energy Group, Rasmus Sielemann Christensen, says:
“With our new solar PV plant at Aunslev, we are taking an important step forward. Developing solar projects is challenging in the current market, but Aunslev demonstrates that it can be done. The next step is to obtain permission to add a battery energy storage system to the solar PV plant, enabling us to better meet our customers’ needs.”
One of the key factors in making the project possible is financing, and AL Sydbank has played an important role as financial partner in enabling the construction of Aunslev Sol. Adding a larger Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) could contribute to better utilisation of the energy generated by the solar PV plant. Battery storage can improve both project economics and the wider societal value of renewable energy, while also enabling more efficient use of capacity in an increasingly constrained electricity grid.
The solar PV plant will be formally inaugurated in October 2026.
