The wind turbine industry is crucial to the green transition, but producing new spare parts for aging turbines requires a lot of resources. That’s why Momentum has made it part of our strategy to focus on reuse and recycling – both to reduce environmental impact and to ensure more efficient operations.
At Momentum, we repair and recycle as much as possible from our own and dismantled turbines. This includes everything from gearboxes and generators to electronic parts, turbine blades – and in some cases entire nacelle housings.
A concrete example? Our service company has recently purchased a decommissioned Nordex N60 in France to be used for spare parts. To reduce the carbon footprint of transportation, this nacelle is currently being shipped to Denmark as an alternative to truck transportation.
The gear from the turbine will be sent to Bornholm, where one of our own turbines is currently down due to a faulty gear. The rest of the parts from the nacelle are stored in MES’ warehouse so that we can quickly repair future faults on the N60 turbines and ensure that they are back in operation quickly.
We are constantly working to keep resources in circulation for as long as possible. This benefits the climate, the environment and our business – it’s one of the ways we contribute to a more sustainable future
