Momentum’s only offshore wind farm is located on Gotland in Sweden. Bockstigen Wind Farm consists of five wind turbines and is one of the first offshore wind farms ever installed. Momentum extended the lifespan of the five wind turbines in 2018, so they can now produce for many years to come.

It also says something about the age of the turbines and the associated need for maintenance to ensure the best operation going forward. There is a great need for continuous examination of the main cable lying on the seabed and the foundations of the turbine towers under water. Until now, Momentum has had a large maintenance cost in hiring divers for the tasks, which have been both expensive and uncertain as they have been dependent on wind and weather. There is also a certain safety risk associated with having divers in the water.

After a local test of the complete equipment in Roskilde Harbour, we look forward to our service technicians in Sweden actively using it as part of the ongoing maintenance of the park. Hopefully, we can receive the first recorded videos from the seabed soon.

The newly purchased underwater robot therefore aims to significantly reduce maintenance costs at the park while giving us a completely different control over how often we want to inspect cables etc.
